Accreditation

White Mountains Community College (Formerly New Hampshire Community College-Berlin) is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education.

Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the New England Association indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the New England Association is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of the quality of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.

Inquiries regarding the accreditation status by the New England Association should be directed to the administrative staff of the college. Individuals may also contact:

History of WMCC

College Twitchell House White Mountains Community College is northernmost of all the state's community colleges. The college was established in 1966 on the site of one of the first homesteads in Berlin. Since 1966, the college has grown in depth and size. Major expansions have increased the main college building to 87,500 square feet of modern classrooms and labs. The Twitchell House accommodates the Office of Community and Corporate Affairs, Human Resources, and the President's Office. The college's child care center is housed in a cozy setting nestled among the trees. The college has also expanded offsite to Conway and Littleton. Computers play a significant role in classroom and lab instruction and are prominent in every curriculum. Most classrooms are equipped with SmartBoards to enhance the learning process.

As the college grows, plans are underway for new courses, new buildings, and a wider variety of options for learners. The basic philosophy remains to provide North Country residents with a first-rate, two-year college education. Our graduates are well prepared, whether headed to the job market, or to four-year institutions to further their education.
