What is the Accuplacer Assessment?
ACCUPLACER is an adaptive test. This means that the questions are chosen for you on the basis of your answers to previous questions. This technique selects just the right questions for your ability level. Because the test works this way, you must answer every question when it is first given. Each test is untimed so that you can give each question as much thought as you wish. You can change your answer to a particular question before moving on to the next question, but you cannot leave a question out or come back to it later to change your answer.
If you do not know the answer to a question, try to eliminate one or more of the choices. Then pick from the remaining choices.
The cost of the assessment is $20 and is non-refundable.
What does the Accuplacer Assessment Consist of?
The assessment is a comprehensive battery of tests designed to provide information about students’ English, reading, mathematics and computer skills. Tests within the Accuplacer system are delivered over the Internet and are used extensively by high schools, community colleges and four-year colleges around the world.
WMCC utilizes seven tests to evaluate students: Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra, College Mathematics, Computer Skills Placement, Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, and WriterPlacer (essay).

Who needs to take the Accuplacer Assessment?
All new students are required to complete the assessment before registering for courses. Exceptions are: students who have provided official documentation for previous college coursework (College English and Mathematics) with grades of C or higher, or students who have taken the SAT exam and earned minimum scores of 470 in Verbal and 500 in Math.
What to Take with You to the Assessment?
On the day of the test, you need a receipt indicating you have paid the Accuplacer Assessment fee. You should be sure to take photo identification.
Cell phones, calculators, textbooks, protractors, notebooks, dictionaries, use of the internet, or papers of any kind are not allowed. Additionally, anyone who gives or receives help during the test, or uses notes, books, or calculators of any kind may not be allowed to continue the test.
At the End of the Test
Once you have completed your test, a score report will be created. This report will be used to assist advisors in determining appropriate course placement.
