The college is well aware of the financial burden of meeting college costs. The Financial Aid Office at the college encourages students to apply for assistance. Typically, 79% of our students receive some form of financial aid.
To be considered for financial aid, the student must first fill out
a financial aid form, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA), which is available from the Financial Aid Office. This form is
used to determine eligibility for State and Federal programs. The
following programs are most commonly available:
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is a federally-funded program which assists
students with the actual cost of attending college. A Pell Grant is not a
loan and does not have to be repaid. To receive a Pell Grant, you must be
an undergraduate who does not have a bachelor's degree and meet
eligibility guidelines. Awards are granted on a sliding scale ranging
from $400-3125, depending on financial eligibility.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
FSEOGs are campus-based funds made available to
students who demonstrate exceptional financial need. An FSEOG also does
not have to be repaid. To receive an FSEOG, you must be an undergraduate
who does not have a bachelor's degree. Awards range from $100-800.
Federal Work Study (FWS)
The FWS program is a campus-based program which
gives students an opportunity to earn money for educational expenses by
working on a part-time basis. Typically, students work as
library/laboratory/computer aides, word processors, child care assistants,
clerical or maintenance personnel under the supervision of a faculty or
staff member. Wages may vary for different jobs, but students will be
paid the current Federal minimum wage or higher.
Federal Perkins Loans
The Federal Perkins Loan fund is a campus-based
program which provides low-interest (five percent) loans to eligible
students with exceptional financial need. Loans range from $300-1000.
Repayment begins nine months after leaving college with no interest
accruing during that period.
Federal Stafford Loan
A Federal Stafford Loan is a low-interest loan
with variable interest rates from year to year. Undergraduate students who
are enrolled in an eligible program at least half time may borrow up to
$2625 per academic year as a first-year student or $3500 per academic year
as a second-year student depending upon their financial need. Repayment
begins and interest accrues six months after you leave college. Programs
of study that finish in less than an academic year or are less than 24
credits will require proration of this loan.
Unsubsidized Stafford Loan
An Unsubsidized Stafford Loan is now made
available for middle-income borrowers who do not qualify for federal
interest subsidies under the Federal Stafford Loan program. Students must
be enrolled in an eligible program at least half time to qualify.
Principal can be deferred during period of enrollment, but students are
responsible for interest that accrues while in school. In addition to the
borrowing limits established for dependent students, independent students
may borrow an additional $4000. Programs of study that finish in less
than an academic year or are less than 24 credits will require proration
of this loan.
New Hampshire Tech Loan
NH Tech Loans are low-interest (five percent)
loans made through the Financial Aid Office at the college. Students may
borrow up to $1000, depending on the availability of State funds.
Repayment begins and interest accrues six months after leaving the
college. Priority consideration is given to full-time students who
demonstrate financial need.
New Hampshire Incentive Program (NHIP)
NHIP provides grants for New Hampshire residents
attending a college within or outside the state of New Hampshire. To be
eligible, students must be enrolled as full-time day undergraduates, have
provided the college with all documents required for the verification
process and not be in default on any Title IV awards. Upperclass college
students may continue to be eligible if their Cumulative Grade Point
Average is at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must demonstrate
financial need and have an Expected Family Contribution of 1500 or below
(1997-98 criteria). There is an early deadline date of May 1 each year.
New Hampshire Nursing Leveraged Scholarship/Loan Program
This program provides scholarship/loans to NH
residents enrolled in the nursing program who demonstrate financial need
and academic achievement. Each recipient of this scholarship must sign a
promissory note for the state portion of the award. Recipients are
required to repay the state portion if they do not work as nurses in New
Hampshire upon graduation.
Governor's Success Grant
The Governor's Success Grant provides scholarship
assistance on the basis of merit and/or need to full-time undergraduate
students who are NH residents, have completed at least one term and are
making satisfactory academic progress.
New Hampshire Charitable Fund

graduate study at approved institutions of postsecondary education are
eligible to apply for grants and interest-free or low-interest loans from
this fund. Information and applications are available from the Financial
Aid Office or the New Hampshire Charitable Fund Student Aid Program, 1
South Street, P.O. Box 1335, Concord, NH 03302.
Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
PLUS loans are loans made to parents of
undergraduate, dependent students to provide additional funds for
educational expenses. Applications are certified by the college Financial
Aid Office. The maximum limit may not exceed a student's cost of
attendance less estimated financial aid. Interest rates are variable,
capping at a maximum of 9%.
