Student Wellness Center and Bake Shop Open House at WMCC

Katharine Eneguess, President of White Mountains Community College

There's a new village square in the North Country and it's in a climatically controlled environment.

It's our new 4,000 square foot Student Wellness Center here at White Mountains Community College, which recently opened in the main building of our college campus in Berlin. We are very pleased with how this project came out, and are inviting you, the interested public, to take a walk about through our student center with its interior village square, on Friday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. And while you're on campus, be sure to check out our new bake shop, 1,500 square feet of bright, shiny, top of the line bakery equipment.

One of the "store fronts" at the Student Center is the Fitness Center. This large exercise room has a host of fitness equipment, including a bank of treadmills that look out across the back lawn. The state-of the-art equipment is good for aerobic workouts and weight training, and we hope our students take full advantage of the center to increase the blood and oxygen flow to both their hearts and their minds. We know that just looking at all the gleaming equipment makes us want to get in better condition.

With the addition of the center, students now have a very comfortable place to sit and relax between classes. Across the square from the fitness room is the student lounge, a large living-room like space with deep-cushioned couches that practically beg you to sit on them. The couches and chairs form a sharp-angled U with a gas fireplace and a big flat screen TV at the open end. We here at White Mountains Community College are looking forward seeing students use this space. It is such a welcome addition to the campus.

The open house will also include the new bake shop, constructed to enhance the College's new Baking and Pastry Arts Degree and Certificate programs. Whether you attend the open house as a prospective student or a curious community member, we know you will be impressed by the new baking ovens. Our Culinary Arts facilities are now so complete that we (only half-jokingly) have suggested in casual conversation that maybe we should sponsor an Iron Chef North Country contest!

Many of you in the community have already attended luncheons and presentations held in the College's cafeteria. The cafeteria, which adjoins the Student Center, has received a make-over too. New table and chairs, a new entrance, new floor and ceiling tiles, and the addition of a sky light combine to make the now bright and cheery cafeteria looks like an entirely new space. We call it the Bistro!

That colorful new flooring extends through much of the college building, and classrooms in the College's north wing have been renovated, too. If you haven't visited us in awhile we guarantee that you'll be quite impressed with the work that's been done.

If you've never visited us, then Friday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the perfect time to do so. We are at 2020 Riverside Drive (Route 16) in Berlin, three miles north of the downtown area. We do hope you'll stop by and see the completed project. We are anxious to show it off!
