Bring Your Life Into Sharper Focus This Fall at WMCC
Katharine Eneguess, President of White Mountains Community CollegeThe weather this summer has been so different from last year that it is hard to imagine the cold of the coming winter. The sunny skies have allowed us to truly enjoy all the warm weather benefits of living and working in the North Country. The kayaking and canoeing have been awesome and the hiking great (as long as you remember to bring enough water along!). Our man-made attractions, from Santa's Village to the Mount Washington Auto Road, have been much more fun without having to walk and drive through the sodden skies of last year.
As I write this, it's another bright and sunny day, and winter does indeed seem far, far away. However, we all know it will arrive, and that when it does we'll take out the skis, lace up the skates, or get the snowmobile up and running. Much as I love summer, I don't think I would want it to go on all year round. There's so much to do during our other seasons, too.
The fall is a beautiful time of year in the North Country, even before the spectacular display of autumn colors. We'll still have warm days, but for the most part the humidity will have lifted, and our mountains will be in sharper focus.
The fall is a great time to bring your life into sharper focus, too. Our fall semester at White Mountains Community College begins August 30, here and at our academic centers in Littleton, Conway, and Woodsville. The full course listings and course descriptions are here on our website. We offer everything from computer courses to social science courses. We are fully accredited as a comprehensive community college by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and as such offer a large selection of associate degree, professional certificate, and certificate programs. Our Nursing program is extremely popular, preparing students for practice as registered nurses. Graduates of our Culinary Arts program have found work they love in a number of well-known dining establishments, including the Omni Mount Washington Resort at Bretton Woods.
Our Teacher Preparation program, which offers an associate degree, has helped many residents in the region to pursue their career goals, whether as a classroom teacher or a paraprofessional. Teacher Prep students can begin their course of study here, and then articulate into the Education program at Plymouth State University, all without ever leaving the North Country! As with all our programs, credits earned are fully transferable to the four-year schools within the University System of New Hampshire, among others.
These are just a few of the programs we offer. For a full listing, check out our website. If you've never browsed through our web pages, or picked up a course catalogue at our Berlin campus or one of the academic centers you will be pleasantly surprised.
Fall classes start August 30, so there's still plenty of time to sign up and get financial aid. We are getting pretty popular, though, so don't delay too long. You can apply for admission online, and/or register for a class or two. We also have an excellent staff to help you guide you through the process, so don't hesitate to give us a call at (603) 752-1113, or email us at wmcc@ccsnh.edu.
