Senator Sununu Secures $350,000 for Academic Center in Mount Washington Valley Technology Village
United States Senator John Sununu (R-NH) on 7/21 secured $350,000 for the NH Community Technical College to establish an academic center in North Conway's Mount Washington Valley Technology Village. The resources are contained in the Fiscal Year 2006 Transportation, Treasury, Judiciary, and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill, which passed the Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday.
"Through this funding for the Technical College, the Mount Washington Valley Technology Village will move another step closer to offering a wide range of educational resources to local residents, who often must travel long distances to attain the academic training they need," said Sununu, who as a member of the United States House of Representatives secured $190,000 for the Technology Village incubator project. "Through classes, targeted training, and seminars, area residents will have the opportunity to enhance their careers and continue to play an integral role in strengthening a diverse local economy. I commend the learning institutions and those officials who have dedicated themselves to a project that benefits so many."
The New Hampshire Technical College Berlin-Laconia, in partnership with Plymouth State College and Granite College (formerly UNH College for Lifelong Learning), expects to utilize the technology village as a satellite education center to provide career and technology programming, associates degrees, diplomas, and certificates along with bachelor degree programs. Upon completion, the building is designed to have state-of-the-art computer labs, classrooms, academic office space, and conference space with teleconferencing capabilities for seminars, courses, and workshops.
The FY 2006 Transportation, Treasury, Judiciary, and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill is expected to come before the full Senate in the fall. Further information on the project can be obtained by contacting NHCTC System Director of Communications Shannon Reid at 603-271-2795.
