Congressman Charles Bass to Speak at CCSNH-Berlin Graduation

The New Hampshire Community College at Berlin is getting ready to welcome Congressman Charles Bass to its campus. Bass will be the guest speaker for the College's 37th Commencement Exercise, scheduled for Friday, May 14 at 5 p.m.

Congressman Bass was first elected to Congress in 1994. Since then, the Peterborough native has established himself as an experienced lawmaker, a responsive public servant, and an independent voice for New Hampshire and the nation.

Since entering Congress, Bass has made increasing federal funding for special education a top priority. Environmental groups in New Hampshire have recognized Bass's strong record of protecting the environment and his commitment to conservation. He has helped secure federal funding to preserve, protect, and enhance some of the state's most outstanding natural resources, including the 171,000 acres of land in northern New Hampshire and environmentally sensitive lands around Lake Tarleton, Bretton Woods, Pond of Safety, and Lake Umbagog.

Currently serving his fifth term, Congressman Bass is a member of the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee. As the oldest standing committee in the House, the Energy and Commerce Committee has jurisdiction over energy, commerce, environment, health, telecommunication, travel, and tourism. As a member of the committee, Bass is working to reboot New Hampshire's high tech economy and lower prescription drug costs for all Americans.

Charlie Bass's public service to the Granite State started in 1982 as a State Representative. He served three terms in the House. In 1988, he was elected to the State Senate where he remained until 1992.
