Higher Value; No Tuition Increase
We've reached that point in summer when our flower gardens are in full bloom and our vegetable gardens are producing bountiful crops. All our labor over the spring and early summer was worth it, and now we can sit back and catch our breath, but just for a bit. Autumn is just around the corner, and right behind that glorious season is winter. It seems, in the North Country, that we spend most of our time preparing for the next season, which is the way it should be. Good planning generally begets good outcomes.
Here at White Mountains Community College we are busy preparing for the fall semester, the start of a new academic year. I'm sure many of you read the recent newspaper coverage of the official groundbreaking for our building and renovation projects here at our main campus at 2020 Riverside Drive in Berlin, or have driven by and seen all the activity. We're quite proud of this project, which will update much of our facility and includes a new student center. It took a lot of planning to see this project to fruition, and hard work by many people.
Our faculty and staff also work hard over the summer to ensure a successful fall semester. None of that work would be fruitful if we did not have you, our learners of all ages, our students. We're happy to report that our midsummer orientation provided students time to talk with faculty and staff about all the things they need to know about, courses to take, financial aid, when classes are held and how to be successful. We are on the way to another great class of freshmen who will start their college classes September 2. These students are planning for their futures, and we are proud to be a part of those plans.
We still have openings for the fall semester, and would like to invite those of you who may still be uncertain about the direction of your life to check us out. Our course offerings are available at www.wmcc.edu/courses/, or you can stop by our main campus in Berlin to pick up a copy of our course catalogue. For information on admissions go online to www.wmcc.edu/admissions/ or give our admissions office a call at (603) 752-1113. It only costs $10 to apply to White Mountains Community College. Or you could take another approach and just come and see us, talk with our admissions staff and make your plan.
We know that winter is always challenging and our economy is in flux. What you need to know is that our Board of Trustees has bucked the trend of higher is better. Higher is not always better, and at the June meeting of our Community College System of New Hampshire Board of Trustee meeting, our Trustees announced a tuition freeze. This means that classes at the college are still the great investment that they were a year ago, and that tuition is still far less than at private colleges and most other public institutions. The best way to handle the challenges of the next season is to prepare for them. Upgrading your skills and broadening your educational background is a great way to prepare for the challenges in your life, so give us a call today and we will help you plan for your future. As the song goes - See you in September!
