CCSNH-Berlin hires new Business Center and Community Education Coordinator
CCSNH-Berlin has hired a new coordinator to oversee the Center for Training and Business Development and the Division of Community Education. John Dyer, a 7-year adjunct instructor for the college, fills the position left vacant by the recent retirement of longtime North Country educator Bob Corrigan. John will work from both the Berlin campus and the Littleton Academic Center.
According to Martha Laflamme, Vice President of Student and Corporate Affairs, the Center for Training and Business Development (CTBD) serves the business and industry communities of northern New Hampshire through partnerships in workforce development, job skills training, and incumbent worker training. "The CTBD affords us an opportunity to contribute to the economic health of the community in a way that extends our role beyond the core service of providing a traditional college education. Our partnerships with local business and industry are good for us, good for them, and good for the community." Recent CTBD trainings have included supervisory skills workshops, machine tools trainings, and computer skills classes, among others.
The Division of Community Education at CCSNH-Berlin is charged with developing classes and workshops for the community that fall outside of standard, credit course offerings. Community education classes are intended to serve both community interests as well as local needs, and can range from cake decorating to computing for seniors, and from welding to grant writing. Instructors are drawn from both the college faculty and the larger community. "I have enjoyed my seven-year relationship with NHCTC and am happy to be taking on an expanded role. This job provides a tremendous opportunity to be of service to the community and I look forward to embracing the excitement and challenges. We are anxious to expand our community education portfolio of courses. We want community members to not only sign up for classes, but let us know what classes they'd like us to offer, or classes they'd like to teach." Dyer said.
Individuals interested in taking or teaching Community Education classes, as well as companies and businesses interested in CTBD services should contact Mr. Dyer in Berlin at (800) 445-4525 or in Littleton at (603) 444-1326.
