Forty three students from New Hampshire Community College-Berlin were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society during a solemn ceremony on March 28, 2007. Welcoming remarks were given by Gracinda Hixon, Chapter Advisor and Nursing Professor at the college. Hixon gave a brief history of the society and explained its purpose "to recognize and encourage scholarship in two-year students." According to Hixon, membership is by invitation only and students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher for all courses taken at the institution, and must be of good moral character possessing recognized qualities including citizenship, leadership, and service.
The keynote speaker chosen by the officers of the honor society was Lynn Davis, a business studies professor at CCSNH-Berlin. Davis acknowledged she has taught many of the former and current members of the honor society. She noted that almost every student she has had in class has had one obstacle to overcome, but they have done so and many have become leaders on campus. "The honor society members and inductees have risen above expectations. You have had the persistence to excel and have been advocates for your own education," said Davis. She urged the students to continue to challenge themselves in all areas, including leadership. She concluded by congratulating the group on their success.
