Tough Guys -- A Book Discussion Series at White Mountains Community College

White Mountains Community College Fortier Library and Berlin Public Library, with funding provided by the New Hampshire Humanities Council, will host a book discussion series entitled "Tough Guys" starting on Wednesday, August 18th at 7 p.m. at the Fortier Library at White Mountains Community College. The series will explore the "hardboiled detective" genre why it has been so popular for so long, how it has changed through time as well as what this type of fiction says about our culture. Local writer, Craig Doherty, and Suzanne Brown, professor at Dartmouth College, will lead the discussions in the series.

The first discussion will be held at the Fortier Library on Wednesday, August 18th at 7.p.m. with Craig Doherty leading a discussion of Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon. Suzanne Brown will facilitate a discussion of John D. Macdonald's The Deep Blue Goodbye on Wednesday, September 15th. Suzanne Brown will return on October 13th to lead a discussion of Robert B. Parker's The Godwulf Manuscript. On November 10th, Craig Doherty will discuss Randy Wayne White's Sanibel Flats.

All four sessions of the series will be held at the Fortier Library at White Mountains Community College. Copies of the books will be available for loan at both the White Mountains Community College Fortier Library and the Berlin Public Library. Refreshments will be served.
