WMCC Automotive seniors Cameron Brown, Matt Dupont, Alan Farrar and Brent Kay participated in a skills competition at NH Motor Speedway on September 23, 2011. The event was sponsored by GearWrench, one of the largest hand tool manufacturers in the world, and sponsor of racer Timothy Peters, #17, in the Nascar Truck Series. The WMCC students competed against automotive students from four other community colleges. The four-member teams had to build a tricycle, and then two members had to race the tricycle around a track. The building and racing competitions were timed, and the WMCC automotive students finished in second place overall. Automotive Professor Al Host served as the team's coach. The college received a gift certificate for $500 towards GearWrench tools. The students went home with individual tool kits. They were also the recipients of GearWrench promotional items, and were given complimentary tickets to the Nascar truck race on September 24.
