Spring Book Discussion at White Mountains Community College

White Mountains Community College Fortier Library and Berlin Public Library, with funding provided by the New Hampshire Humanities Council, will host a book discussion series entitled "Against All Odds" starting on Wednesday, March 24th at 7 p.m. at the Fortier Library at White Mountains Community College. The series will examine the physical and psychological struggles of humans surviving in the face of extreme trials. WMCC Professor Emerita Marion Schafer, local writer Craig Doherty, and the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire's Frumie Selchen will lead the discussions in the series.

The first discussion will be held at the Fortier Library on Wednesday, March 24th at 7.p.m. with Marion Schafer on The Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fagles. Craig Doherty will facilitate a discussion of Cabeza de Vaca's Adventures in the Unknown Interior of America on Wednesday, April 21st. Craig Doherty will return on May 19th to lead a discussion of Alfred Lansing's The Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage. On June 16th, Frumie Selchen will discuss Yann Martel's The Life of Pi.
