WIST Forum


White Mountains Community College, The New Hampshire Space Grant at UNH, and NASA (National Aeronautics and Science Agency) hosted the Women in Science and Technology (WIST) Forum on Friday, April 3 from 9 AM to 2 PM. The event was held at White Mountains Community College for over 120 high school girls thinking about college and career paths. The Women in Science and Technology (WIST) Forum provides a unique opportunity to meet, listen to, and talk with professional women who have achieved remarkable successes in science, engineering, and technology.  The keynote speaker Brigid O'Donnell and panel discussions offered inspiration and guidance to motivate the young women to explore their own aspirations in these fields.

Fields represented by our panelists at this year's WIST Forum were: Sustainability and Recreation Science, Environmental Science, Policy and Education, Developmental Biology, Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Biology, Environmental &Civil Engineering, Electrical and Surveying Technology, Earth and Climate Science, Electrical and Nuclear Mechanics.

Participating in the event were: Gail Wigler, Lesley Rowse, and Jennifer Olmstead from White Mtn. National Forest; Sophia Scott, Amy Villamagna, and Brigid O'Donnell, from Plymouth State University; Elyse Kesner, Samantha Knox, Mary Nevells and Jessica Lamarre from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard; Jill Killborn from NH Fish and Game; Rebecca Gilson, Civil Engineering Associates; Nicole Spaulding, University of Maine; Kristein Schield, Dartmouth College and Ji Im, UNH.
