Nursing Program Approved by Board of Nursing

White Mountains Community College is poised to accept the Freshman Nursing Class for fall 2015 after the N.H. Board of Nursing granted full approval to the program for five years. The November 20th approval of the redesigned program is a clear statement that the suspension of the program was an extremely positive and progressive step for the future of nursing in the North Country.

Throughout the past 18 months, the Nursing Faculty at White Mountains Community College have been devoted to a complete overhaul and redesign of the program, including  restructuring curriculum  and better alignment  of the curriculum with the changing demands of the profession. The efforts of the nursing faculty have strengthened the program that will best meet the needs of the WMCC students, healthcare partners and the community. The diligence and hard work of the nursing department paid off this week as the N.H. Board of Nursing granted the program at WMCC full approval for the next five years. The Nursing Class of 2014 has been working as equally hard, and the pass rate for the NCLEX-RN exam, an examination for the licensing of nurses in the United States, is at 95.23%!

In June of last year, the nursing program was put on conditional approval, and shortly after the College made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend the program, thus allowing time to address deficiencies in the program that was pointed out by the Board of Nursing. A key focus of the new program is the ability to help students pursue a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN). In order to make this possible, WMCC has agreements with Plymouth State College, Granite State College and Southern New Hampshire University in extremely affordable baccalaureate completion pathways. Baccalaureate entry level nursing is the future in nursing, so it is imperative that we offer affordable and accessible pathways to complete a BSN.
