If you are already a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA), the Medication Nursing Assistant (MNA) Certificate program equips you with the knowledge and skills to safely administer medications in long-term care settings. This training builds on your existing experience and covers the essential principles and techniques of medication administration, helping you expand your professional role, increase your earning capacity, and advance your career.
Medication Nursing Assistants
- Support the workforce by supporting medication administration duties, MNAs can help remedy healthcare worker shortages by improving workflows.
- Improve patient care: Having a dedicated role for MNAs can free up registered nurses to focus on more complex tasks, potentially improving overall patient care and safety.
- Increase efficiency: MNAs help improve care efficiency by assisting with the complex and critical task of medication management
Training includes:
- The professional role and responsibilities of the Medication Nursing Assistant (MNA)
- Foundations of medical ethics and applicable healthcare laws
- Overview of common medications, including their intended effects and potential side effects
- Key safety considerations, including recognizing and preventing medication interactions
- Infection control principles and safe practices for medication administration
- Identification and prevention of common medication errors
- Appropriate use of over-the-counter medications
- Basic pharmacology and commonly prescribed medications across a range of health conditions
- Considerations for safe and effective medication use in older adults
You are eligible to apply for the program if you:
- Hold a valid, unencumbered nursing assistant license issued by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing
- Have at least two full years (4,160 hours) of LNA work experience within the past five years
- Demonstrate proficiency in math and English
- Have no felony convictions
- Successfully pass a drug screening
- Meet all WMCC application requirements
- Meet all WMCC tuition and payment requirements
This course will be delivered in a combined in-person theory and clinical format for a total of 71 hours.
- 35 hrs. classroom theory/lab
- 36 hrs. on-site, in-person clinical hours
The Medication Nurse Assistant operates on a 7 to 9 week schedule, and is an open enrollment course.
**Homework and classroom assignments are accessed through the learning platform Canvas. A laptop is required to access and complete all coursework.

The MNA program is offered at both WMCC locations, the Littleton Academic Center and the Berlin campus, with clinical locations held at partner sites.
Applicants should be in good physical and mental health and able to meet the following requirements:
- Manual dexterity and tactile ability: to assess pressure, temperature, position, vibration, and movement.
- Hearing: to understand instructions, respond to emergency signals, and communicate effectively, including by phone.
- Vision: to observe patients, operate equipment, read small print, identify color changes, and make accurate calculations.
- Strength and stamina: to perform CPR and stand for extended periods of time.

Enrollment in the MNA program is a multi-step process and acceptance into the program is not guaranteed until all the following steps are complete:
- Submission of all required application documents, please use the checklist provided.
- Completion of the pre-program assessment.
- Interview with the LNA/MNA Coordinator.
- Pass 12-panel drug screening and TB – QuantiFERON Blood Draw
- Formal acceptance letter from WMCC.
- Tuition payment has been made in full before the first day of class.

All MNA students must demonstrate English comprehension and math proficiency. Our staff will contact you to arrange a short assessment on-site at WMCC. The assessment may be waived if you have a certificate or degree from an institution of higher education, or if you have achieved a 2.0 GPA or better in a college level math class (Early College math credit is acceptable).
Pass a 12-panel drug screening and complete TB – QuantiFERON Blood Draw at ConvenientMD. **We will provide you with a form to take to ConvenientMD.
Submit the Health Screening Form, to be completed and signed and dated by your healthcare provider. This document is included in the MNA Application Packet.
