The Student Success Center is here to help you build the skills and confidence you need to succeed in college. Whether you’re looking for help with coursework, developing study habits, or planning your academic path, we’re here to support you.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS SERVICES
Helping you become an independent and confident learner.
Skill Development
Work one on one with an academic coach to strengthen skills like:
- time management
- organization and planning
- note taking
- study skills
- test preparation
- research and writing
- and other skills-based needs
Students are allowed up to one hour per week for academic coaching. To make the most of your appointment, come prepared with specific questions or topics you wish to discuss.
Course Support
Need help in a specific class?
- Meet with an academic coach to discuss your needs.
- You may be matched with a tutor for course-specific content needs
- Use Brainfuse for free, on-demand tutoring anytime (click the “24/7 Tutoring” link in Canvas). Students can Request More Brainfuse Time via the 24/7 IT Support Chat if needed.
Students can access up to two hours of SSC tutoring per week in two different subjects. To make the most of the appointment, prepare specific questions or challenges you are facing to help guide the session.
Writing Feedback
- Go to your Canvas course and click the 24/7 Tutoring link
- Choose Writing Lab > Submit Paper
- Choose instructions and upload your paper to get feedback within 24 hours
- Check the Messaging Center in Brainfuse for the feedback

What to Expect Your First Visit
When you first visit the SSC (in person or online), you’ll meet with an academic coach to talk about your goals and challenges. Together, you’ll come up with a personalized plan for success.

Before your first semester, new students meet with their assigned Enrollment Specialist to discuss their programs and courses. Students will discuss:
- programs and courses
- textbooks
- financial aid
- get set up for success
- register for courses
One-on-One “Navigating College” Appointments
Meet with our Enrollment Counselor to discuss:
- class schedules
- changing your program
- transfer planning
- other enrollment questions
These meetings can happen throughout your time at WMCC.
Transfer Advising
Thinking ahead? Get help exploring transfer opportunities:
- Learn about programs at other colleges.
- Understand how your credits will transfer.
- Discuss how financial aid can fit into the plan.
- Learn the steps for a smooth transition.
