Emergency Medical Services (EMS) offers a dynamic and rewarding career path for individuals committed to providing high-quality emergency care in pre-hospital settings. Earning EMT licensure prepares students for entry-level positions with municipal and private ambulance services, fire departments, and in some cases, hospital emergency departments.

EMTs are trained to systematically evaluate a patient’s condition and deliver assessment-based, patient-centered care. Instruction is delivered through interactive classroom lectures, and hands-on practical skills training.

White Mountains Community College EMT program is a 120-hour entry-level training course designed to prepare students for work in emergency medical services. In addition to in-person instruction, the course includes an online homework component completed through Pearson’s MyLab Brady and Canvas learning platform. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs examination and, upon passing, may apply for state licensure.

The EMT course also serves as a required prerequisite for advanced EMT, paramedic, and firefighting programs. It is also an excellent entry point into broader healthcare career pathways, including nursing, advanced practice nursing (such as nurse practitioners), and even physician-level training. Many students use EMT experience as a foundation for future clinical education and advancement.
