MEDA101W introduces students to the clinical skills required to become a medical assistant. It teaches students professionalism, teamwork, communication, documentation, disease processes, treatment protocols, preparation and assistance in selected diagnostic studies (including laboratory tests and therapies involving various systems of the human body), and the operation and maintenance of clinical equipment. Instruction covers the following areas: ECGs, spirometry, client/patient care, client/patient teaching, diagnostic imaging test preparation, proper response to medical office emergencies, skills related to infection control, theory and principles of administering medications, the operation and maintenance of clinical equipment, BLS Health Care Provider CPR Certification, a variety of Clia-waived laboratory testing (including urinalysis, hematology, immunology, microbiology, and blood chemistry).
